Good news! On June 28 Thousand Hills officially takes possession of the Zuiderkerk. The purchase agreement has been drawn up and the Hilversum city council will hand over the keys to our 6-year old congregation. Below are some details that we have sent out as a press release.
Restoration
It is particularly exciting that this church, which for so long was designated for demolition, has now become a municipal monument. Now the Zuiderkerk will not only be retained but will also undergo considerable restoration.
Neighborhood Party
Thousand Hills is looking forward to continuing to be a part of the community and are celebrating with a party for the neighborhood around the Zuiderkerk. This party will take place on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 between 13.00 -15.00. There will be a bouncy castle, face painting and games for the children, and for the adults there is high tea, portrait photography and an art exhibition. Everyone is welcome!
Active
Since May 2006, Thousand Hills International Church, then known as Hilversum Christian Center, has been using the Zuiderkerk and holding weekly church services. In addition, the church is active in the community by providing meals and gift-bags for people in need. The church also regularly holds concerts for the public.
International
Thousand Hills is a church with an international and open character. Anyone who wants to grow in love for God and for people is welcome regardless of background or past. Every Sunday Thousand Hills organizes services in Dutch and in English. At this moment nearly 400 people attend the services from more than 30 different countries and each week new people attend.
The services can best be described at vibrant, contemporary, relevant and welcoming. Thousand Hills also has a great band that complements the services with fantastic music, and well-known international speakers regularly preach.
The Dutch service begins at 09.15 and the English begins at 11.15. During both services there is a special kids’ program with fun activities.
We are so thankful to God how he has led us in this process and we’re looking forward to the doors he will open in the future as we settle in this neighborhood!
